Free PL-300 practice exams are the quickest way to find out if you're ready for the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification. PL-300 is a scenario-driven exam. You'll get a business requirement and need to pick the right Power Query transformation, DAX function, relationship setting, visual, or workspace permission to satisfy it. Working through realistic questions ahead of time shows you which parts of Power BI you already know cold and which ones need more hands-on time in Power BI Desktop.

What the PL-300 exam covers

The exam tests four official domains. Prepare the data (15 to 20 percent) covers connecting to sources, profiling data quality, and shaping tables in Power Query. Model the data (30 to 35 percent) is the biggest chunk and covers star schema design, relationships and cardinality, cross-filter direction, calculated columns versus measures, DAX with CALCULATE and time intelligence, and performance tuning. Visualize and analyze the data (25 to 30 percent) covers choosing visuals, report navigation, bookmarks, drill-through, and AI visuals like key influencers. Manage and secure Power BI (15 to 20 percent) covers workspaces and roles, apps, row-level security, sensitivity labels, gateways, and scheduled or incremental refresh.

You'll face 40 to 60 questions in 100 minutes, including case studies and interactive items, and you need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000 to pass.

What's in these practice exams

These free Microsoft PL-300 practice questions follow the official domain weightings:

  • Prepare the data (Power Query merges and appends, query folding, data profiling, handling nulls and errors, parameters)
  • Model the data (star schemas, relationship cardinality, bidirectional filtering, role-playing dimensions, CALCULATE, filter context, time intelligence, aggregations)
  • Visualize and analyze the data (visual selection, conditional formatting, bookmarks, drill-through, tooltips, Q&A, decomposition tree, anomaly detection)
  • Manage and secure Power BI (workspace roles, app publishing, static and dynamic RLS, gateways, incremental refresh, deployment pipelines)

There are 160 questions across 8 sets of 20, with a mix of easy, medium, and hard items. The first set is completely free with no signup. Every answer comes with an explanation of why the right option is right and why the others fall short.

How to use these effectively

Take the free set first to get a baseline. Since modeling carries around a third of the exam, pay close attention to how you do on DAX and relationship questions. If filter context or CALCULATE trips you up, rebuild the scenario in Power BI Desktop with a small sample dataset before moving on. Reading about DAX isn't enough. You need to see a measure return the wrong number and figure out why.

Read every explanation, including the ones you got right. PL-300 often has two plausible answers, and the rationale tells you which detail in the requirement tips it one way. Once you're scoring above 80 percent consistently, run sets under a timer so you get used to the pace of the real 100-minute exam.
