Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900) is an entry-level certification from Microsoft for anyone who wants to demonstrate foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts and how they are delivered on Azure. It validates an understanding of AI workloads, responsible AI principles, core machine learning ideas, computer vision, natural language processing, and generative AI capabilities such as Azure OpenAI. You do not need a deep technical background to take it, which makes it an accessible first step into the Microsoft AI portfolio.
AI-900 is aimed at business stakeholders, students, career switchers, and IT professionals who want a structured introduction to AI on Azure. People in product, sales, support, project management, and consulting often take it to communicate clearly with engineering teams and to make better-informed decisions about AI initiatives. Developers and data professionals new to Azure also use it as a stepping stone before pursuing role-based certifications like Azure Data Scientist Associate or Azure AI Engineer Associate.
The exam itself is short and approachable. Candidates typically face around 40 to 60 multiple-choice and multi-response questions in a 45-minute window, with a passing score of 700 out of 1000. Questions emphasise understanding of core concepts and the appropriate Azure service for a scenario, rather than deep configuration details. Topics span AI workloads and responsible AI considerations, machine learning fundamentals, computer vision, NLP, and generative AI, including Azure OpenAI Service and Azure AI Foundry.
Mock exam practice is one of the most efficient ways to prepare for AI-900. The questions are scenario-driven, so being able to translate a business problem into the right Azure service is critical. Practicing questions trains you to recognise which capability (such as Azure AI Vision, Azure AI Language, Azure AI Document Intelligence, or Azure OpenAI) fits each scenario, and helps you spot common distractors. It is also a great way to catch gaps in responsible AI principles like fairness, reliability and safety, privacy, inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.
These AI-900 practice exams give you 25 sets of 20 questions, distributed across the official exam domains: AI workloads and considerations, machine learning fundamentals, computer vision, NLP, and generative AI. Each question comes with an explanation that tells you why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong, so you build understanding as you go. The first set is completely free, with options to unlock additional sets to keep practising as long as you need.
