The Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) certification validates your ability to design and implement DevOps practices for version control, compliance, infrastructure, configuration, testing, security, and feedback using Azure DevOps and GitHub. Offered by Microsoft, this expert-level certification is the capstone of the Azure DevOps role-based path and pairs Azure administration or development knowledge with mature DevOps practice.

This certification is designed for professionals who combine people, process, and technology to continuously deliver valuable products and services. It targets engineers, tech leads, and platform engineers with hands-on experience across Azure Pipelines (YAML), Azure Repos, GitHub Actions, Azure Boards, ARM/Bicep or Terraform, and observability with Azure Monitor and Application Insights. Microsoft requires either the AZ-104 (Administrator) or AZ-204 (Developer) certification as a prerequisite before you can earn AZ-400 as an Expert credential.

The AZ-400 exam consists of 40 to 60 multiple-choice and case-study questions that you must complete within 100 minutes. You need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000 to pass. The exam covers five official domains: Design and implement processes and communications (10 to 15 percent), Design and implement a source control strategy (10 to 15 percent), Design and implement build and release pipelines (50 to 55 percent), Develop a security and compliance plan (10 to 15 percent), and Implement an instrumentation strategy (5 to 10 percent). The pipeline domain dominates the exam and covers YAML multi-stage pipelines, environments, approvals, gates, deployment strategies, container and Kubernetes deployments, infrastructure-as-code, and package management.

Mock exams are essential for AZ-400 because the exam is scenario-heavy: many questions describe a real-world DevOps problem across multiple services and ask which combination of Azure DevOps and GitHub features solves it best. Our practice exams cover all five domains weighted to match the actual blueprint, so you spend most of your time on pipelines and release engineering where the real exam concentrates its questions. You will build fluency in trunk-based development, environment approvals, workload identity federation service connections, feature flags, blue-green and canary deployments, secret scanning, and Application Insights instrumentation.

Our platform offers 500 unique practice questions organised into 25 sets of 20 questions each, all aligned with the official curriculum. Every answer includes a detailed explanation of why the correct choice is right and why the distractors are wrong, so you learn even when you get a question right. You get instant explanations, per-domain progress tracking, and a timed mode that mirrors the real 100-minute exam. Your first set is completely free, letting you try the platform risk-free before purchasing additional sets.
