The Microsoft Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500) certification validates your ability to implement, manage, and monitor security for resources in Azure, multi-cloud, and hybrid environments. Offered by Microsoft, this advanced-level certification is aimed at security engineers who hold an associate-level role focused on protecting an organisation's Microsoft Azure footprint end to end.
This certification targets professionals who design and implement identity and access controls with Microsoft Entra, lock down platform networking, secure compute, storage, and database workloads, and run day-to-day security operations across Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft Defender XDR. Microsoft recommends candidates have strong practical experience with Azure administration as well as scripting via PowerShell or Azure CLI before sitting the exam.
The AZ-500 exam contains roughly 40 to 60 multiple-choice, case-study, and scenario questions that you must complete in 100 minutes. The passing score is 700 out of 1000 on Microsoft's scaled-scoring model. The exam covers four official domains: manage identity and access (25-30%), secure networking (20-25%), secure compute, storage, and databases (20-25%), and manage security operations (25-30%). Questions emphasise real configuration decisions and policy trade-offs over rote definitions.
Mock exams are critical for AZ-500 because the question style frequently combines several Azure security services in a single scenario. Practising with realistic questions trains you to spot the correct service combination (for example: Conditional Access plus Privileged Identity Management plus Defender for Cloud) under time pressure rather than memorising service names in isolation. Our practice exams mirror the official domain weights so weak areas are easy to identify.
Our platform offers 500 unique practice questions split across 25 sets of 20 questions each, all aligned with the latest AZ-500 skills outline. Every question includes a detailed explanation that justifies the correct answer and calls out why each distractor falls short. Your first set is completely free, so you can try the platform before you decide to unlock the rest.
